about

The Dalesman’s Litany is a staple of the Yorkshire folk song tradition, with the words having come into the world as a poem written around 1900. It was set to music some 60 years later by Dave Keddie. The song tells of the hard times brought on by industrialization and having to leave your home, forming a parallel with the tale of the Kurdish refugee in The Road to Germany.
